SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Networking-equipment maker Netgear Inc. said Monday it has agreed to pay up to $17.5 million for security firm CP Secure Inc., whose products scan businesses' Internet and e-mail traffic for threats to their computer networks.

San Jose, Calif.-based Netgear said it will pay $14 million cash for CP Secure's assets. Netgear will pay up to an additional $3.5 million if CP Secure hits unspecified targets before the acquisition closes.

Netgear said the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
