Spain Ups Proposed ‘09 Solar Cap To 500 MW
Posted by Eric Savitz
Spain has softened its planned cutback in solar subsidies, the country’s energy secretary said earlier today, according to Reuters.

Spanish Energy Secretary Pedro Marin has proposed limiting the total capacity of new solar panels eligible for the country’s generous subsidy program to 500 megawatts. An earlier draft proposal would have set the cap at 300 MW. This year, the country is expected to install at least 1 GW of solar panels, which makes it the world’s second-largest solar market, after Germany.

The new proposal raises the cap on ground-based installations to 300 MW, and leaves the limit on roof-mounted panels at 200 MW.
