Fuchi, Steve Porter, Dale Champlin, and anyone else,
Real world technologies sells a MIG 549 motherboard from M-Tech for $79. It is labeled as the VIA SuperTX chipset and has a 75 MHz bus speed. This sure seems like a great price for a name brand mother board.

Is this the same chip set as the AMD 640?
Does anyone have any experience with this board?
Has this board been bench marked by anyone on the net? (Anand, Tom, etc)
How could this board be so inexpensive when compared to their SIS and Intel chpset boards?

I have been pleased with my 534 so buying another M-Tech board does sound appealing.

This board would be used for a friend who wants to upgrade his system as cheaply as possible. He only surfs the net and does some minor word processing/spreadsheet work. He is not at all interested in the media GX since he wants to reuse some of his components (case, ram, video). I wish I could convince him but he won't budge. His PC utilization is perfect for the GX!

And, I'm a little gun shy regarding the TXPRO motherboards. (sorry fuchi) Another friend of mine just bought one (PC CHIPS) from a shop in town and had nothing but problems with it. he eventually exchanged it for a m-tech 534g (good reputable shop). Fuchi, I think you were lucky with your board, especially considering the stability at 83MHz!

Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
steve h
