Gary, the Livingston deal may be an attempt to get market share at small ISPs to buy time while waiting for ASND which is the real fish. LU has realized that if it doesn't take over ASND, someone else will. ASND is the last best chance for a new comer to establish a beach head in the voice+datacom market. The big cos are getting nervous watching one another's move regarding such an attractive target for in a hypothetical situation where ASND doesn't get acquired, it still does well on its own. Any acquisition would be a bonus. A very good news for shareholders: ASND has repriced its employee stock option to $34 15/16 at the COB 10/17/97. This indicated that ASND mgmt was very confident that this is the bottom. I doubt that ASND will remain independent by next year. IMHO, it will be trying to get the highest bidder. This could take some time.
