I think you quote them out of context.

<If you have diabetes, it doesn’t mean you will never have birthday cake or pumpkin pie again. With a little planning, you can have a small serving of your favorite dessert. It’s best to save the sweets for special occasions so you don’t miss out on the more nutritious foods your body needs. But don’t worry, you can include sweet treats on special occasions and still mange your diabetes well.>

diabetes.org

I just read through the entire passages from the web site, while I don't really like it as I'm very much anti-carb myself, I don't find it quite as evil as you do.

I think they are saying most people are going to eat some sugary foods anyway. If you must eat sugar, here's how to do it with minimal harmful effects.

Certainly the diet they recommend is much better than the average American diet. And perhaps it is much more realistic for the majority than an extreme Dr. Davis diet. It's not an all or none phenomenon.

I agree now with basically almost everything as recommended by Dr. Davis. It's just not realistic to expect that more than a very small percentage of the population will eat like that.

A middle ground is much better than a pure junk food diet and more realistic than the Dr. Davis super healthy extreme.

But hey I do send out his recommendations to friends and family.

But almost nobody will follow them 100%.

I can't buy that the ADA is nearly as bad as you say they are.

I think all this vitriol, time, energy, and passion would be better spent trying to convince the food industry to make a healthier product and to convince the restaurant and fast food industries to serve a better one.

And to educate the public to eat better. The public will never eat a perfect diet. But I believe they could be convinced to eat a much improved diet.

Something is much better than nothing.

And when you start talking like a fanatic, people tend to tune you out.
