How does PacketVideo plan to make money? I suppose they have a premium version which is not open-source. < PV delivered a portion of its CORE(TM) software to the Android mobile platform. CORE is the industry leading multimedia application framework that powers more than 260 million devices worldwide for tier-one mobile operators. Working with the Open Handset Alliance, PV created an open-sourced version called OpenCORE(TM) which provides the power to run sophisticated audio, video and imaging applications, including several applications chosen as top award-winners in the recent Android Developer Challenge.>

Android does seem to be the right idea. BREW has been a fizzer [I once thought it would be the foundation for huge numbers of applications but that's another lost hope]. The first Android device off the production lines looks like a winner.

It's hard to imagine that anyone will be without a cyberphone in several years, so even a niche proprietary right in a market of 5 billion people will be serious business. Then there are all the autonomous machines which will include Android systems.
