Some of these clowns actually have been there all along.

And as with the lead up to the vote in Congress with respect to Iraq, they have been lied to. There have been plenty of lies here -- somebody posted a bunch of quotes from Paulson y-day.

Congress historically has not been subjected to a barrage of lies and obfuscation and threats, and that pretty much has been the play book with this regime.

I do fault this Congress for not impeaching Bush over the Valerie Plame incident. And many others.

In that sense though I agree with you... they've allowed their dysfunctional system to grow (e.g. earmarks) and have lost touch with what they were empowered to do in the Constitution. I suspect that if term limits had ever become law, we'd be a far stronger country today. All these representatives and senators who were in their last term wouldn't be perpetually focused on reelection and so easy to buy off.
