This concept is uniquely Western. Most Eastern philosophies believe that men are created differently based on karma or whatever. Take ST's example, for instance. "An old samurai saying stated the 'punishment' for being a warrior was to return as samurai in the next life, thereby continuing the cycle of restless violent life they lived." That implies fatalism. If you were born into rough circumstances, oh well, you probably deserved it based on your actions in a previous life.
