love this quote:

With President Bush preparing to address the nation tonight on the need for a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, members of his own Republican Party are bolting on Capitol Hill – among them, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter of Livonia.

McCotter was one of the first to object to the plan floated by Bush and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson for the government to buy up bad mortgages and other debts that are crushing the markets, saying taxpayers should not be the first option when it comes to bailing out Wall Street.

Reacting even before Bush gave his speech – which was set for 9 p.m. – McCotter said, “Who is giving the Republican response?”
