There is no "other person". The "other person" is the bank, who then finds someone who wants to take the opposite position to yours. So, I get broke cause I levered up and lost, and I can't pay the bank. The bank gets to assume my losing position and pay the other counterparty. If there are many like me out there, the bank collapses -g-
