Yes, the bust was indeed predicted a long time ago, but the RMBS, derivatives, CDOs, etc., were not quite what they are now back then and they have contributed mightily to the problem. The bursting of a housing bubble can be handled but a lot more comes with it now.

If McCain had selected Mitt Romney, as I hoped he would, he might not be a deer in the headlights on economic issues. It is not his strong suit. The debate tonight should be interesting.
