"The proposal by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nev., and Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert C. Byrd , D-W.Va., also includes an assortment of other items, such as $490 million for Byrne grants, which go to local law enforcement agencies; $250 million for NASA to work on the space shuttle’s replacement; and $1.2 billion for the National Institutes of Health."

This is why we are as nation in a financial crisis------With due respect for Senator Byrd's age and health----it is time for Senator Byrd to retire.

He's done enough porking that even his own homestate of W.Va. actually objected to-----wanting to close educational facilities while building new ones with his name on them.

The space programs and massive programs that must be considered in separate legislation so that we know the real costs and details of funding. The figures sited in this legislation are simply add on's to those agencies-------let's stop patching them-------transparency needed for all agencies.

Time to ding the bell of spending by the Democrat Congress.
