Neither AMD or Cyrix won early acceptance of their MPUs by 1st tier PC OEMs and there is NO REASON for the expectations for IDT/Centaur to be any different. Why do people keep on bringing up the issue of when IDT will announce major OEM customers?

IDT may be able to announce some major customers overseas. The reason that the overseas markets are more accepting is because of the cost being much more important and the sheer fact that Intel has spent billions od dollars on pounding the Intel Inside and Intel Pentium mantras into Americans while spending relatively little on advertising in markets in the Far East, South America, etc.

IDT must first build the groudwork by ramping production and proving they can deliver trouble free parts before any major OEM is likely to jump on board. It just is not going to happen this quarter and we'll be lucky to see it next quarter.

First will come the ramp up and announcements the company is shipping hundreds of thousands of parts. Then a Compaq or other major PC OEM maight decide to use them.

IDT may win design-ins for set-top boxes and Net PC terminals at major OEMs. This is posible because the OEMs will not have large existing markets for which large quantities of parts must be guranteed. These products can be expected to ramp up over time.
