Right after 9/11 Pleasant Hawaiian was offering trips at a dirt cheap price level.

I gave PH's name to one couple who went to Maui for one week for about 450.00 each................and that included the roundtrip flight.

Hawaii's economy is dependent on tourists and they were in rough shape due to the grounding of the airlines.............That, coupled with the public's fear of flying at that time, had Hawaii on it's knees.

On 9/10, I had made a reservation to fly American on a six stop, cross country trip. I ended up taking the trip as it took place right after the grounding was lifted...............but the airlanes were not even close to full and the airports were empty echo chambers. It was actually a pleasure to fly if you could get past the fear factor.....................even the pilots were spooked and that trip was an experience I'll never forget.
