BONUSES are paid in ARREARS! Those people earned what they earned, last year and need to be paid, lest the new entity gets sued. That money is set in an acct to pay on severance, and the existance of an acct like that to pay back pay is partially MANDATED BY THE GOVT.

And I hate to tell you this sad fact, but venture capitalists, investment bankers and a few other select professions such as subcontractors in Iraq routinely make $1 million per year. Thats just the way it is. I'm sorry the blue collar workers of the world have a problem with this, but in my case I have seen the difficulty of making it in VC (basically it is a situation were thousands of people try and only a few make it), and its not exactly a cakewalk. There are about 150 or so bona fide "DEAL MAKERS" at these wall street firms and they make a million or two million per year just like VCs. All these articles you are posting like that other one that barked about $2 billion for severance for 2500 people is just remarking on the standard run of the mill job market for these people, its incredibly naive.

Grow up!
