Mccain is losing partly because he has violated the principles he laid out when he started the campaign. The straight talk express, civilized campaign, country first...he could not live up to these notions, because he never figured what he'd do if he came to be running from behind...when that happened, he had to abandon the noble approach, start smearing, hire an incompetent VP...it's all coming back to bite him.
McCain is behind right now for one reason only - the media is trying to install Obama.
Now, there is no doubt that the economy has played to Obama's benefit -- as Candy Crowley put it, "This [the crisis] is exactly what the Obama campaign was hoping for". But most Americans still feel that McCain is better qualified.
McCain may lose it. He did not do a good job of slamming Obama with the facts during the debate. While McCain clearly won the debate on points, as we all know, presentation is critical, and Obama presented well. There are a couple of debates remaining, so it isn't over.
Obama scored a huge win by virtue of the debate on foreign policy being jerked out from under him, which should not have happened. But it isn't bean bag.
McCain made a serious error when he moved the campaign from attacking Obama's resume. This is, after all, the heart of the problem -- that Obama is just not qualified for the job. |
