Completely wrong Dave. MAD forced the Soviets to match and even at times exceed us in military expenditures for forty years, despite having a much weaker economy and a much more feeble GDP. Eventually, the hardships imposed on their citizens was just too much to sustain.

Reagan, the day he occupied the Oval Office, recognized the weakness in the Soviet's economy that had existed for DECADES. And he recognized that SDI, which he had believed was possible as far back as the early 60s (when Edward Teller discussed the subject with him) and recognized that he could end the Cold War by forcing the Soviets into a buildup they knew they couldn't afford.

You guys don't know this history, you know only the liberal rewrite of it.
