She might have said that a sitting governor does not have time to read magazines and newspapers of a general nature. This would’ve been a lot better than the non-answer answer she actually gave. Similarly, she could’ve answered the question about foreign-policy experience in the prior Couric interview by simply saying that she didn’t have any. Many other candidates for President and VP didn’t have any either, so I don’t understand why she felt compelled to try the silly stuff about the Bering Strait.
