Finally the Feds are doing something about Microsoft's suffocating grip on the advancement of small computers. They have decided to build their operating system around the archaic, brittle, excruciatingly painful to use, work with and even look at, COM. It is truly a monument to pathetic software design and it has only survided as a result of an unlimited budget and 10 plus years of rewrites and reinventions. Those who have a hardcore grounding in C++ and have had to endure the best COM has to offer know just how tragic this system really is. The BASIC hacker mentality of this company is barely overcome by hundreds of millions of dollars and virtually unlimited staffing. They have been feeding off their toy operating system for a decade but they are clearly on the downward slope with this COM fiasco.

Where is the universal spelling checker and thesaurus for use by all software residing on the system? Is there a funding problem with this or something? Maybe in another decade Windows will be so advanced that one developer working at Microsoft will come with, say, a right-justified numeric input box. In short, anybody who seriously thinks Microsoft is trying to improve ths OS for any reason other than strengthening the grip of their own applications is dreaming.
