True, unless your name is Microsoft ;). SGI has had such an OS for 7-8 years now, but the Origin 200/2000 OS is quite another beast; it looks like an SMP, but isn't hampered by a fixed system bus. And the quality of the kernel and scheduler has improved a lot over these many years; that's what pays off.

Not all customers just want a good S(2)MP scheduler as a tick box item on a list; some also want that feature to perform well ;).

That's a big laugh. Try telling Oracle customers that buy *large* servers they don't want the 64-bit version...

The N64 pricing model (they choose to make money on cartridges and not on the base unit) is Nintendo's choice. But I can assure you it has no impact on the license fees that SGI earns.
