Thanks. That's fascinating.

You have just named the biggest weakness in Periostat. It never occurred to me before! It wouldn't matter for CGPI's purposes if widespread resistance to tetracycline developed since CGPI is only interested in metalloproteinase inhibition. But this is a classic way to induce antibiotic resistance--use a very small dose of the antibiotic. Select out resistant organisms in millions of people's mouths and let them infect others by coughing, hugging, hand-holding and kissing. Surprisingly, this issue never came up at the Alex Brown Health Science conference last May, nor is it mentioned in the analyst report.

Tetracyclines are the most effective oral antibiotics that we have for acne. They also are used often for chlamydia and for the less common tick-borne illnesses. And these are just a few examples that occur to me without consulting any reference books. Losing these antibiotics to resistance is no trivial matter.

In retrospect it was out of dumb luck that I sold my stock last month. (Well, maybe not so dumb, but still lucky. I put my money on the concept that where there is smoke there is fire. FDA delays sometimes are an indicator of deep trouble. In this case it looks like the concept applies)

If I was still a shareholder I'd be calling IR to see what they had to say in response to this problem. Does anybody on the thread have an answer to this concern?
