My suspicion is that (thus far... the final result is obviously not in yet) she has *both* shored-up support among the GOP 'base' (mostly religious conservatives, etc.) AND lost support for the ticket among moderates and Independents in the middle.

I woudl think you are exactly right. She reads a heck of a speech off a teleprompter, and she is a very nice person from all accounts. Her life story is interesting. The base found (and still feels) things about her that make them very excited.

The independent voters were initially intrigued by the claims of maverick status, no earmarks, no bridge to nowhere,.....but as with so many things in life further scrutiny wilted the rose a bit.

Then things got serious of the economic world and people wondered if she could sit in the chair and do the job. So far on that point she is not making progress. Rather the opposite.
