diamond is a myth so its not necessarily a good example. Canada is full of diamond, but the cartels are against that knowledge so....diamonds are scarce. There are diamonds floating throughout space in massive quantity.

get space programs going and still, with discovery....diamonds will be scarce.

diamonds are also now synthetic....the process can get better....just need better emulation skills to make it so.
