10/20/97 Ultratech Rally Attributed To Orders From Analog Devices, Motor
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Shares of Ultratech Stepper Inc. rose 13% Monday, apparently on news that the San Jose, Calif.-based maker of semiconductor equipment landed $4 million in new orders. The orders, from Analog Devices Inc. and Motorola Inc., came in late last week, said Ashok Kumar, an analyst with Lowenbaum & Co. Kumar said they were part of two multimillion dollar orders Ultratech (UTEK) received from the companies in mid-September. The orders were for steppers - machines used in the printing of circuits on computer chips. Ultratech plans to release its third-quarter earnings Thursday. Net sales for the previous period ended June 30 totaled $38.1 million, versus the year-ago level of $51.8 million. Net income was $5.7 million, or 27 cents a share. Ultratech officials weren't available for comment. At the close, Ultratech was trading at $33.375, up $4.125, or 14%, on Nasdaq volume of 1.7 million shares, compared with average daily volume of 472,704 shares. ***** Best - Joe |
