"It's not a pretty picture..." Maybe not but boom/bust cycles are fairly normal with Capitalism. (IMO, what has vastly exacerbated the normally-expected boom/bust cycle is the overlay of a global Credit Crisis... and the collapse of a massive Liquidity Bubble. "Sub-prime" may be a triggering factor but, in the context of the total problem, it is but a smaller part.)
