Bob, that is sort of what I wrote about in my post but I don't, as a rule, always write a specific dollar amount at a specific period of time. I will, however, sell into strength. When a stock is nearing the end of a breakout I'll begin to write covered calls as a hedge. I'll start with maybe 5-10% of the position, then more as we near expiration. Warning though. You have to be willing to lose the stock and have the patience to wait for it to come back down again before you buy it back. Look at CIR (circus circus). I believe that is a good stock for growth over the next few years and represents one of the cheapest gambling stocks. I have been writing calls every month because I don't think it's going anywhere right now. My return, income, has been around 30%/year. Not so bad.
