As a Californian, I have to put up with the fact that California pays much more in taxes than she gets back in earmarks and other federal subsidies. But hey, that's the price I pay for living in such a beautiful state with nice weather. I can even walk the dog on a January morning with a T-shirt and shorts on. Meanwhile, Alaska is of strategic importance to America. But it's not exactly paradise there. Why shouldn't residents of Alaska get incentives to live and work there?
