There have been laws on the books about libel and slander for a long time. If you say something about someone publicly, they can sue you for libel if it was in print, and slander if it was spoken. You then have the burden of proving that what you said or printed was true. If you can prove it's true, you win.

If McCain supporters want to use lies, they may have a problem. If they stick with the truth, they're OK.

Nobody's trying to suppress opposing viewpoints.
