"as if anything that doesn't follow a strict minimalist rule-of-thumb must be "socialist."" Huh? There are those here who argue precisely that. "How does giving incentives to live and work in Alaska going to minimize class warfare, for instance?" What does that have to do with the subject at hand? The USSR paid people to live in Siberia. So, you are arguing that wasn't socialism? There are many places in this country with less than ideal climates. Yet, you want to single out just one place and subsidize them. Why?
