He was really only for Roe v. Wade when he was running against Bush.

McCain-Feingold was solely to try to rehabilitate himself from Keating, and it's not something he's stood by since.

The Gang of 14 got the judicial nominees passed... it's not like he tried to stop Alito and Roberts. He got the Democrats to bend.

Over the course of the rest of his career, he has been against Roe v. Wade (he seems to be right now), been for abolishing the departments of education and energy, been for taking out Saddam before pretty much anyone else was, been for basically abolishing Social Security and other safety nets, and has been in favor of as much deregulation as possible.

So yes, I stand by my description of him as a "right wing nutjob."

Every politician has exceptions -- hell, Tom Tancredo is a huge proponent of aid to Africa.
