There wasn't any October surprise. If there had been North wouldn't have been a part of it.

He was a Marine officer in 1979. He graduated from the Naval War College in 1981. Went to work for the NSC in that year.

Back in 1979, he was either serving at Camp Lejuene or at the NWC in Rhode Island.
