Mostly of the same "it might be true". Like his Muslim roommates. There is no evidence that they were/are Muslim other than they have "funny" names and came from a part of the world where there is a non-zero chance of them being Muslim. For one, that non-zero chance is pretty low, he is more likely to be Hindu.

But, even that isn't all that likely. See, foreign students going to Harvard have pretty close to a zero chance of being from the middle class. They are much more likely to be from the upper class and the upper class tends to be not very devout. The fact that all three are still in the US makes it even more likely.
