Thanks for the post. I'm not going to be able to give a really full comment--I'm in Texas visiting friends and relatives through Sunday. So I don't have time to do more than skim the thread in the evenings.

As for my desire to have Medicare for everyone, I see the problem you bring up. A couple of comments about it. I don't think Medicare is perfect. It certainly needs to do a better job of coverage. I see Sam brings up the bit about preventive medicine. I agree. The second comment is that Medicare for everyone would be only a beginning in two senses--it's better than what exists for a lot of people and any government policy would need to be supplemented by one's own insurance policy, if you could afford it.
