There was an implicit and obvious racial component to the passage of the CRA act in the first place. "Affirmative action" for borrowers, essentially. The staunchest defenders, of course, were black politicians like Maxine Waters.

Thus, any defender of CRA is a friend of minorities, while anyone criticizing it for helping to exacerbate the mortgage mess is branded a "racist." For that, Barney Frank ought to be ashamed of himself. The fact that he isn't tells me that he is desperate to run for political cover. And you have to ask yourself why.
