No, you didn't. No one required FRE or FNM to accept loans that were substandard and containing serious underwriting flaws like questionable appraisals and buyers with bad credit. All they did was encourage the two secondary lenders to have a healthy mix of high end and low end loans in their portfolios. Simultaneously, redlining was discouraged in inner city neighborhoods.
