Rant warning.
Apologies in advance because the subject is Sarah Palin, and the more I thought about her the more riled I got.
I don't know why or how McCain chose her. I assume it was not a decision forced upon him, because the party all seemed so surprised, but it reflects appallingly on him.
She's plainly far too ignorant, intellectually shallow, and rash to be trusted in senior office - especially with an actuarial 14% chance of succeeding to the presidency in the first term. She can't think fast, logically or coherently; clearly has no ideas of her own; and blatantly has no grasp of economics, foreign or domestic policy. IMO she was probably overpromoted as mayor of a small town.
And that's before the implications of her religious, environmental and moral beliefs are taken into account, and indeed her character. She's undiplomatic, condescending and false. She comes over like a valley girl, one step up from trailer trash, who trades on looks and flirting to get an easy ride, and lauds herself by putting down others. If she ever thinks more than 24 hours ahead, I believe it would only be to plot her own betterment. You might, I suppose, like such a person: no doubt she could be fun at a toga party: but heaven forbid you ever choose someone like that to lead your country.
Next to her, even W looks like a titan of policy, rationality and sanity. She would completely devalue the office and status of the Presidency.
I can't think of anything demonstrating more clearly McCain's total unsuitability for office, than that he believes in her suitability.
Hopefully I can now dismiss that nightmare, may all the gods let it be true.
