It took 30+ years to fully recover from 1929 on an inflation adjusted basis. See the following chart.

However, as it has often been pointed out, the government slowed down the recovery with the New Deal or it might have recovered sooner.

So, if this is a repeat of 1929 and the government keeps on screwing up you and I will probably not live to see ourselves whole again unless we are successful short traders.
