The OUTSTANDING earnings from Jones New York are directly attributed to the performance of the Lauren Line of clothes.
Sidney Kimmel, Chairman, commented, ''We are extremely pleased with our third quarter and nine months record results. Sales momentum was extremely strong, with double digit growth across our career and casual sectors. This strength, coupled with an excellent performance from our Lauren by Ralph Lauren division, contributed to the record third quarter.''

Mr. Kimmel further stated, ''Our backlog of open orders at quarter-end was 49% ahead of the prior year. We are particularly gratified that the backlog of our core labels, exclusive of Lauren by Ralph Lauren, was approximately 20% ahead of last year. We look forward to continued solid performance across all our businesses throughout the remainder of 1997 and into 1998.''
Both stocks looking VERY strong for the season...and if current retail trends continue well, both companies are in for a good run. With the economy heating up and disposable income up for the upper end, these lines should continue with their marketing power and high quality of merchandise.
