Au contraire. For the people who bought into the Swiftboat Vets stories, Kerry became an object of virulent hatred.

Certainly there was more hostility toward George Bush in 2004, as he had been throwing his weight around and screwing up pretty much everything he touched for three years by then. That's my view of it, anyway.
