I really don't know...I don't think anybody other than the parties involved actually know for certain.

I will speculate a little bit. From what I have read, a GTE/BT joint purchase of MCI could create a formidable powerhouse in the telecom world--not just the USA. The reason for the word "could" is simply that this would not be an easy move to make or to logistically pull off. It could be done but it would be an incredible challenge on serveral fronts. You've got three different organizations with different billing platforms, different corporate cultures, and thousands of employees to integrate into one new organization.

With that being said, I'd like to see it happen.
