This topic is discussed from time to time. For example, Intel is producing Pentium/Pentium Pro devices in 0.35 micron processes at THREE different wafer fabs.

The newest .35 micron fab, #12 in Chandler, is cranking out Pentiums with spectacular yields and high speed bin splits (i.e, 200 MHz), exceeding Intel's own projections.

Of course, these pale in comparison to IBM's MEGAFABS, cranking out tens of millions POWERPC chips going into the tens of millions of Apple Power Macintosh computers.
