perhaps it seems worse to me because I expected better from McCain.
McCain did look better in the past. (That really wasn't meant to be a dig at his looks now...).
What I mean is, he disowned and disavowed the slur put out re Wright, and seemed to be pushing for a clean fight. Which IMO would be much more sensible for him to have kept up: it would have fitted his image far better, be much more attractive to swing - centrist - voters, and it's simply better PR to be the good guy. Obama now shows very well for simply not stooping (overtly) to smear-by-connection.

Plus looking at things cynically: after 30+ years in DC McCain's bound to have all manner of nasty associates, hidden skeletons, buried bodies, dirt under rugs etc - I don't believe you could possibly do business in politics at that level for that long without dirtying your hands.
