I don't really have problem with a photo ID, but as Bates pointed out photo ID is a solution to a problem that doesn't appear to exist.

The courts tend to take a dim view of unnecessary rules to prevent people from voting, and unless one has clear evidence that there is a problem...

My father-in-law gave up driving due to eye issues and doesn't have a photo ID. I think it's absurd to have to take an afternoon off to drive him 45 minutes to the DMV station and wait in line for an hour just to get a photo ID to vote... particularly when we live in a town were voting is a social event - everyone knows everyone by name.

I suspect more fraud happens with absentee ballots - most folks in nursing homes around here have their ballots filled out by others and haven't a clue how they voted.

The registration issues described by Bates also trouble me. Someone gets paid to get voters to register? That process should be tightened.

Finally, poll workers. These are twice a year jobs and half the workers haven't a clue as to what they are doing because the don't attend the training meetings. "I've been doing this for ten years. I don't need training." is the complaint. Then all hell breaks loose when they screw up and answer questions incorrectly or violate other rules that lead to charges of fraud...

JMH uninformed opinion..
