I think in the end we won't have a choice. When 'the end' comes is anyone's guess.

Worst thing that can happen, IMO, are politicians continuing to promise quick fixes because the public demands it.

Actually it seems like 'the public' has been against the bailouts, and the politicians are demanding it. The government has taken over much of the mortgage industry, a good slice of the insurance industry, and they are now moving on the banking industry.

Imagine if a Dem was in the White House, Treasury and the Fed... the right wing would being shrieking that the whole thing was orchestrated to impose socialism on the US. Even I in my more paranoid moments start thinking hum, ....
