The crisis was caused by the availability of no money down adjustable rate mortgages to almost anyone. The market for such risky loans would have been saturated quickly if not for the uncapitalized Credit-Default-Swap psudo-insurance. Without that line of fraud the originators of the loans would not have been able to sell them off to bundlers without a deep discount. TP
