Do you think, given Obama's working with Ayers on a big ticket education grant, he should be asked whether he shares Ayers views on education?
That might be a fair question, yes - but is Obama actually working specifically with Ayers on something? It seems an odd way for a busy senator, standing for president, to be doing. Are, or were, they on the same committee (chaired by one of them, or someone else): was there some large grant to be distributed? If not, given it seems to have been a reasonably casual acquaintance, probably one of hundreds Obama has had at this level, could you even expect him to know what Ayers espouses?
You see, I doubt the "given" in that question. (And as I said I'm really not interested in Ayers...),
Has Obama put forward specific policies on education? Ah, yes. that didn't take long. Probably most questions are answered in there.
So I suspect the reasonable answer if you asked his campaign that would be "Our education policy is laid out here. barackobama.com Ayers is an independent individual, not part of our campaign or involved in policy formulation. We are not aware of what his position is. If his views happen to agree with what we are putting forward, then I'm sure that's good. If his views differ then we don't agree. Whatever the case he is certainly entitled to his own views."
That seems fair to me. |
