I would credit each of the candidates (and Bush) with seeing the forest.

I have listened to both candidates. Best I can tell - neither has a clue what the real problem is or what to do.

I certainly agree that whoever the President is - he will need lots of help in this area and that expecting him to understand this is likely unrealistic.

Interestingly, Paulson has made errors that would not have been errors if done by GS. The deals he has cut have been TOO GOOD (for the government). And by cutting deals that are too good for the government - he has created an unintended consequence in leading the markets to believe that any company in financial difficulty will be destroyed. That has further locked up the financial system.

For you and others that have a serious interest in the financial problem that the US faces I would suggest listening to this video by Nourel Roubini:
