Gerry Adams and Yitzhak Shamir? WTF do they have to do with anything?
The best examples I could think of off-hand of major terrorists active and accepted in politics and civil society generally. They demonstrate my point that politicians necessarily interact and even cooperate with people that they may well loathe personally and for their history, as well as for their politics.

<i.You don't care about Ayers because for you, Obama is beyond reproach. His choice of political allies and friends is irrelevant.
No, I don't care about Ayers because he's irrelevant. He doesn't seem to have been an especially major character for Obama, helpful yes but I suspect just one of many, there's nothing to indicate he's still got any special connection, and AFAIK he's not playing any role in this election.

Obama's said nothing to approve of Ayers' past - quite the opposite. Ayers was already well established and accepted when Obama first met him (1995? or 1992? not quite sure from your post) and either way his nasty past was 20-25+ years in the past. And as I've demonstrated it is common necessity for politicians to accept others in these circumstances.
