I DON'T want to retain earmarks. I just don't think they are THAT important right now in the time of half-trillion deficits year after year.

What McCain is saying is essentially he will give himself a "line item veto" without the line item.

If he sees earmarks he doesn't like then he will just veto the whole bill. It will end up taking a year to pass ANY spending bill and THEN John will eventually give in and the earmarks will still be there.

There isn't a Congressman or Senator running right now that hasn't been using his "earmarks" to get votes in this election.

What I'D like to see is PAYING for what you SPEND, just like the "blue dog democrats" have been talking about. You have to HAVE the money before you spend it or find some source of revenue to pay for it.
