Because he didn't, other than a couple of relatively minor timing matters. Timing things just right wouldn't have made much difference. <Why don't you take a deep breath, relax, and just admit it... ALAN GREENSPAN SCREWED UP!!!> I have always found it quite hideous to see pile on behaviour, scape-goating, bullying, mindless mob attack etc. I find myself inclined to take the part of the attacked rather than the attackers. When the attackers' reasoning is akin to the intelligence of a frog, it is apparent that they are doing little more than Jew baiting, throwing Christians to the lions, burning witches at the stake, sacrificing young virgin women to propitiate the God'-. I didn't borrow a whole lot of money to pay a ridiculous price for a house in California though I went looking for houses. Ipso facto the fault was with those who chose to do so and those who chose to lend to those who chose to do so when those who borrowed had no chance of paying the mortgages when interest rates rose. It was quite clear that interest rates would rise [since they were at all-time low levels while inflation increased]. Alan Green$pan could have made interest rates zero and paying twice the sensible price would still not have made sense. Mqurice PS: Having written that, it occurred to me to check and Green$pan is indeed of Jewish origins. Well, that explains things. No wonder people want to blame him. Where have I heard such things before? I wonder if Mel Gibson has an opinion on the matter.
